Introduction to Inner Mongolia Normal University

Founded in 1952, Inner Mongolia Normal University is one of the key universities in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Praised as “the cradle of ethnic education”, it is a comprehensive normal university with characteristic features of both teacher and ethnic education.

IMNU has 28 teaching institutions, two cooperative schools, one independent college and two affiliated schools. There are 2,128 faculty members, including 1,350 full-time teachers. Of these, 1,168 have a doctorate or master’s degree, accounting for 86.5 percent of the total number of full-time teachers. There are 685 teachers with associate senior or senior titles, accounting for 50.7 percent of the full-time teachers.

Meanwhile, the university has 754 doctoral and master’s program supervisors and 20 teachers who have obtained the Excellent Teacher title at the Inner Mongolia autonomous region level. The campus also has 24 young and middle-aged experts, regarded as having made outstanding contributions to the country or the autonomous region.

The university offers 92 undergraduate programs in 10 disciplines. Of these, one is national-level excellent course, one a national-level excellent video public course.

Two involve national-level teaching teams, six special construction sites of the Ministry of Education, 32 autonomous region-level brand majors and four autonomous regional key construction majors.

There is one national-level professional comprehensive reform pilot project, one professional comprehensive reform pilot project at the autonomous region level and 79 autonomous region-level excellent courses.

There are 15 that employ autonomous region-level teaching teams; there are nine autonomous region-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 18 autonomous region-level key disciplines and key cultivation disciplines. There are also 37 key disciplines at the university level.

With regards to the strength of its scientific research, IMNU has a total of 30 scientific research platforms at the autonomous region and ministerial level.

They include 14 key laboratories (engineering centers) at the autonomous region level, three key research bases in philosophy and social sciences at the autonomous region, three key laboratories at the university level — and four key research bases in humanities and social sciences at the university level.

They also include two academician expert workstations, one autonomous region collaborative innovation center and three national and regional research centers for the Ministry of Education.

Currently, IMNU has 31,677 undergraduates, 4,330 graduate students, 905 continuing students and 645 international students, making up a multilevel educational framework. Of these, 6,593 undergraduates use the Mongolian language in class.

In addition to cooperating with famous universities and research institutes at home, IMNU is connected to the world and has established partnerships with universities and research institutes in more than 20 countries and regions — including in Mongolia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Canada and Australia.
