North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and is one of the key universities under the national “211 Project” and “985 Project Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform”. In 2017, the university entered the ranks of national “double first-class” construction universities, focusing on the construction of energy and power science and engineering discipline cluster, and started a new journey of building a world-class discipline and high-level research university.

The university was founded in 1958 in Beijing, originally named Beijing Electric Power Institute. In 2003, the school was transferred to the Ministry of Education and is now managed by State Grid Corporation, China Southern Power Grid Corporation, China Huaneng Group Corporation, China Datang Group Corporation, China Huadian Group Corporation, National Energy Investment Group Corporation, State Power Investment Group Corporation, China Yangtze River Three Gorges Group Corporation, China Guangnuclear Group Corporation, China Power Construction Corporation, and China Power Construction Corporation. The university has an aggressive, well-qualified and reasonably structured high-level faculty team, with 1991 full-time teachers, including 420 with senior positions and 722 with associate positions.
