French Department of Lanzhou University

Established in 2008, French Department initiated its first undergraduate degree program in the autumn of 2009. From 2009 onwards, approximately 20 students were enrolled every year. Currently, we have 80 undergraduate students of French Major.

French Department has an excellent faculty which is composed of seven teachers, who specialize in linguistics, literature, translation studies, foreign language teaching method and international economy and trade, as well as two foreign teachers from France and other French-speaking countries. They are responsible for the teaching of French Majors as well as the undergraduates and postgraduates in the university who learn French as a second foreign language.

The department has a wonderful audio-visual room with books and reference materials in Yuzhong Campus and all the classrooms are equipped with multimedia teaching facilities. So far, the department has maintained close cooperation with Université de Paris 7 Denis Diderot, Université de la Rochelle, and University of Ottawa. Every year, five excellent undergraduates can be sent on exchange programs to these universities.

The department aims to help students develop French proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, the students are expected to acquire specialized knowledge in French linguistics, literature and culture. The department offers courses including French Intensive Reading, Advanced French, French Grammar, French Listening, Oral French, French Extensive Reading, French-Chinese and Chinese-French Translation, French Linguistics, An Overview of France, Selected Reading in French Literature, A History of French Literature, An Introduction of French-speaking Countries, Appreciating French Films, French Writing, Business French, and Tourism French.

The department also provides activities and guidance for students to present French culture in diverse forms such as French songs, French plays, and speeches and debates in French. Undergraduate students are supposed to apply for schools in French-speaking countries to pursue master’s degree, finding employment in government offices, research institutions, universities and enterprises.

Russian Department of Lanzhou University

Department Activities

Founded in the autumn of 1946, Department of Russian is one of the oldest faculties in Lanzhou University. In 1952, the Department of Russian was incorporated into Northwest Russian College. Our department began to enroll undergraduate students in 1978 and was approved to grant master’s degree in Russian Language and Literature in 2002. We have a staff that includes 12 teachers and researchers, including 3 professors, 3 associate professors and most of them have obtained doctoral degrees. Besides, 2 or 3 teachers from Russia are regularly employed to teach Chinese students Russian.

Russian Department currently has 150 undergraduate students and 20 graduate students. The courses provided for undergraduates include Russian Intensive Reading, Russian Extensive Reading, Grammar, Listening, Speaking, Writing, Russian Literature, Russian History, General Introduction to Russian Speaking Countries, Translation. Courses for graduates include Lexicology, Russian Rhetoric, Social Linguistics, Russian Literature, Translation Theory and Practice, Social State of Russian Speaking Countries, Russian Culture, Sino-Russia Relationship.

As our department has been fully-fledged in Russian language and literature teaching and research, we have also attached special watch to national and cultural knowledges of Russia. This is fully reflected in our teaching and research syllabus in which students are not only required to own proficiency in language skills of Russian, but also to own an integrative and comprehensive command of linguistic and cultural knowledges of it. Setting off from a mono-disciplinary educational structure, we are now seeking for a multi-disciplinary sailing to a more prestigious Russian education institute playing as a base and cradle for fostering high-quality international talents.

The Lanzhou Theoretical Physics Center (in preparation) has been operated on a trial basis since December 2020, and its predecessor was “Theoretical Physics Exchange Platform” established in 2010 by Lanzhou University. The center currently has 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (part time) and 39 full-time faculties, including 2 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 1 Yangtze River Scholar from the Ministry of Education, 1 Leading Talent of the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, and 1 national “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Project” , 3 winners of the Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 national top-notch young talents, 1 young Yangtze River scholar from the Ministry of Education, and 2 “Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents” of the innovative talents promotion plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology. They are grouped into five research teams according to their research fields: condensed matter theory, quantum optics and quantum information, gravitational physics, particle physics, and statistical physics. The conveners are Professor Luo Honggang, Professor An Junhong, Professor Liu Yuxiao, Professor Liu Xiang, and Professor Huang Liang.

In order to further reinforce the development of the research team, we are now openly recruiting postdoctoral fellows in China or abroad. The specific requirements and stipend are as following:

Ⅰ. Requirements:

1.Hold a doctorate degree in physics, mathematics or other related areas, (obtained no more than 5 years), or will obtain the doctorate degree soon. Have good logical-thinking skills, English-communication skills, and English-writing skills.

2. Have a solid research background in the following fields, including but not limited to: condensed matter theory, quantum optics and quantum information, gravitational physics, particle physics, and statistical physics.

3.Familiar with cutting-edge scientific researches, and well understand the research subjects to be undertaken and the problems to be solved during postdoctoral period.

4.Have published research papers in related academic journals, and are willing to devote to fundamental physics research.

5.Be able to conduct scientific research independently, cooperate with other team members, maintain academic integrity, and deal with scientific research seriously.

6. Be able to work as a full-time post-doctoral researcher, physically and mentally healthy enough to fulfill the job assigned.

Ⅱ. Stipend and benefits:

Postdoctoral stipend: Well-paid + promotion opportunity + benefits.

Based on the applicant’s scientific performance, the following postdoctoral fellowships (General or Cuiying) of Lanzhou University may be applied :

1.The stipend for “Cuiying Postdoctoral Fellowship” is between 300,000 and 400,000 yuan per year.

2.The stipend for a postdoc (general) is 162,000 yuan per year.

◎Applicants awarded by talent support programs, such as the national “Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program”, the “Postdoctoral International Exchange Program”, and other talent support programs, can be directly selected as “Cuiying Postdoctoral Fellows”, and will be provided with the following support:

*Double support:

Besides the basic salary provided by the school, daily funds provided by the state are paid in full to post-doctoral staff monthly, and total payment can reach 500,000-600,000 yuan per year.

*Extended support:

The school can continue to pay until the end of employment if the subsidy period has expired but still in contract with excellent performance.

*Full support:

For those who leave the position earlier, the remaining part of the daily funds provided by the state will be granted to the person in a lump sum

Ⅲ Promotion path:

1.During the position, the post-doctoral fellow can apply for qualifications for professional titles.

2.Qualified “Cuiying postdoctoral” and postdoctoral fellows (general) with outstanding performances can be transferred to career establishment positions in accordance with the talent introduction conditions and procedures, and awarded the corresponding housing subsidies, resettlement fees, scientific research start-up fees and other talent introduction benefits.

3.Post-doctoral fellows applying for the postdoctoral science fund or science fund at or above the provincial or ministerial level as primary applicant and being approved, according to the “Lanzhou University “Cuiying Postdoctoral” Support Program Implementation Measures”, can apply for transferring to the “Cuiying Postdoctoral Program” if they have been in the postdoctoral position for less than one year

  1. Introduction of the school

School of Physical Science and Technology, a promising member of Lanzhou University, was founded from the merger of the original physics department (established in 1946) and department of material science (established in 1984). It is among the first batch of institutions that was granted the charter to confer degrees of bachelor, master, doctorate and post-doctoral mobile station authorized by MOE. The school has set up undergraduate specialties in theoretical physics, magnetism, metal materials physics, electronic devices and materials engineering, materials physics, materials chemistry, and microelectronics science and engineering, under three first level disciplines such as physics, material science and technology and electronic science and technology. In 1993, the National basic science research and teaching personnel training base in physics was established. In 2008, the National physics experimental teaching demonstration center was established. In 2010, it entered the China “top-Notch undergraduate training program”. The school is equipped with key laboratories for Magnetics and Magnetic Materials of the Ministry of Education; Key Laboratory of Design of Special Functional Materials and Structures Ministry of Education, and National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Light Conversion Materials and Technologies.

At present, the school is open to recruit high-level talents such as condensed matter physics, theoretical physics, particle physics and nuclear physics, materials science and engineering, and microelectronics and solid electronics.

The Center for Grassland Microbiome, Lanzhou University announces openings of 6 full professor positions and 13 early-career research professor (i.e., Yong Research Fellow) positions. The successful applicants of full professors will be immediately tenured. The successful applicants for Full Professor Positions should have an outstanding publication record, with the ability and will to build up a nationally and internationally competitive research team. The State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agroecosystems:

The State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agro-ecosystems, which is the only state key laboratory in the area of grassland sciences. Its grassland science was ranked A+ by the last discipline review organized by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2016. Currently, the State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agro-ecosystems has two members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, who are the only academicians in grassland sciences.

Founded in 1909, Lanzhou University is a national key comprehensive university

under the direct authority of the Ministry of Education. It is one of the universities supported by the ‘Project 985’ and “Project 211”, one of the first batch universities having the right to grant master’s and doctor’s degrees and one of the first universities to establish a postdoctoral research mobile station. The university has a long history, outstanding comprehensive strength and rich academic achievements. In the latest natural index ranking of 2017, Lanzhou University has published 174 papers in 68 journals recognized by the Natural Index, ranking 96th in the world, 25th in the Asia-Pacific region and 10th in domestic universities. According to statistics of SCI, Lanzhou University is one of the universities with high quote rate in international academic journals in China. Twelve disciplines of the university have entered the top 1% of ESI globally, among which the chemistry has entered the top 1‰ of ESI globally.

 

After the founding of People’s Republic of China, by pursuing the education strategy of the Communist party of China and insisting on the right direction of development, it grew bigger and became well established within a short period of time. During the process of adjusting the departments of higher institutions, LZU was identified as one of the fourteen comprehensive universities in China. Guided by such strategic goals as “developing the northwest region” and “establishing strategic base”, it has grown into an university with strategic significance, embarking on the historic mission of training high-level talents for the country, especially in the west region of China, and developing science, technology and culture. Since the reform and opening up initiative was adopted, by seizing the historic opportunity brought by such strategies as “rejuvenating our country through science and education” and “strengthen the nation with trained personnel”, as well as such projects as “211 Project” and “985 Project” implemented at the national level, LZU has enhanced its standard across the board guided by the principle of liberating the minds and driven by reform and opening up. In 2002 and 2004, Gansu Grassland Ecology Research Institute and Lanzhou Medical College were successively incorporated into LZU, which further enriched its disciplines and made its comprehensive advantage even more prominent and ushered into the stage of rapid development in its history. With its long history, strength in running school and outstanding performance, it ranked among the top universities in China.

 

The College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics was established in June of 2005, covering Mechanics Science founded in 1956, Geological Engineering founded in 1975 and Civil Engineering founded in 2001. Taking mechanics and geological engineering as the basis, regarding civil engineering as the main line and treating engineering science and engineering practice as the goal, the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics strives to become an influential and first-class research engineering college integrating basic research for application, engineering scientific research, engineering design and engineering management in China.

 

At present, there are 80 teaching and administrative staff, including 18 professors, 19 associate professors, 14 doctoral tutors and 40 master tutors in the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics. More than 740 undergraduates and 380 graduate students are studying at the college. Nowadays, the college sets up three undergraduate majors (Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and Geological Engineering), two master’s degree programs of first-level in Mechanics and Civil Engineering (including Geological Engineering), two doctor’s degree programs of first-level in Mechanics and Civil Engineering (including Geological Engineering) and two postdoctoral research stations in Mechanics as well as Geological Resources and Geological Engineering.

 

Currently, the College has four teaching units: Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Geological Engineering and Engineering Experiment Center, and five research institutes for Solid Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering as well as Engineering for Preventing Disasters and Reducing Damages. The College has independently established the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics, jointly set up the Scientific Research Base of Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Special Functional Materials and Structural Design (Grade B) with other colleges in the university, co-built the National Protection Center of Ancient Chinese Murals with the Dunhuang Academy China, and founded the National Geophysical Field Observational Station of Lanzhou together with Gansu. The College is actively promoting the construction of structural engineering laboratory.

Ⅰ. About us

Lanzhou University (hereinafter referred to as LZU), located in Lanzhou, a pivotal city on the ancient Silk Road and the capital of Gansu Province, serves as a national comprehensive university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education. It is one of the key universities listed both in the national “Project 985” and “Project 211” as well as a national “Double First-Class (First-Class Universities & First-Class Disciplines)” university. In 2019, LZU is authorized by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee to issue degree independently.

Centering on the vision of the important speeches of the General Secretary, combining the development needs of the Western China and Gansu province, as well as contributing LZUers’ efforts to deeply participate in serving the national strategy and the development of Gansu province, Institute of Green Finance (hereinafter referred to as IGF) was established on October 24th, 2019. With the missions of “cultivating financial talents, serving local economy, achieving ecological progress and contributing to a beautiful China” as well as the ideas of “resource exchange, comprehensive communication, scientific research and initiative service”, IGF is committed to building a domestically leading and internationally renowned green finance academic highland, high-end think tank and talent training base.

IGF implements the President responsibility system under the leadership of the council. Lanzhou university serves as the president and the vice-presidents are as follows: Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China; Gansu Province Financial Association; Gansu Provincial Financial Supervision and Administration Bureau; Lanzhou New Area Management Committee; Gansu Bank Limited Corporation; Bank of China Limited Gansu Branch.

The Institute has set up an council as a decision-making body to examine and approve major issues of IGF and to integrate various resources. An academic committee has also been established to provide strategic consultation and to consider major academic affairs such as scientific research and academic exchanges for its development.

IGF aims at actively carrying out external cooperation and building a regional green finance cooperation network, strengthening the construction and academic research of the Institute, promoting the development of disciplines and innovating talent training mechanisms, as well as improving the capacity building of think tanks and launching a series of think tank products with significant decision-making impact.

Ⅲ. Positions Available, Requirements and Salary Package

i. Professor

Requirements

Applicants should already have Associate Professorship(or above) in a domestic universityor with a preliminary Professorship (or above) in a foreign university, or those who have the with equivalent capacity to professors of our university.

Applicants are required to have been famous and influential in the professional field, have published papers with high-level academic achievements, and have hosted national or above fund projects.

Applicants should be capable of writing policy consultation reports centering on major strategic decisions and arrangements for national and local economic and social development as well as combining hot-spot and key issues such as green finance.

Excellent Applicants will be provided with relevant treatments on negotiable terms.

Salary Package

Salary, insurance, welfare and merit pay will be offered according to the National Salary Standards.

400,000 to 1,000,000RMB research start-up fund for Humanities and Social Sciences.

500,000 to 900,000 RMB housing and relocation allowance plus temporary apartment.

Job and schooling settlements respectively for spouse and children.

 

ⅱ. Associate Professor

Requirements

Applicants should already have Lectureship (or above) in a domestic university or Assistant Professorship (or above) in a foreign university, or acquire a PhD degree with outstanding academic achievements.

Applicants are required to have issued papers with high-level academic results as the first authors or the second authors (If so, the first author must be their supervisors) with the capability of undertaking scientific research independently. Besides, applicants ought to have hosted ministerial and provincial level or above fund projects.

Applicants should be capable of writing policy consultation reports centering on major strategic decisions and arrangements for national and local economic and social development as well as combining hot-spot and key issues such as green finance.

Excellent Applicants will be provided with relevant treatments on negotiable terms.

Salary Package

300,000 RMB research start-up fund for Humanities and Social Sciences.

iii. Lecturer

Requirements

Applicants should be no more than 35 years old and be undergraduates and graduates with bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees from their universities and their major for application must meet our research demands. The previous education background for doctoral degree holders from well-known overseas universities could be appropriately relaxed.

Applicants are required to have issued papers with high-level academic results as the first authors or the second authors (If so, the first author must be their supervisors) with the capability of undertaking scientific research independently.

Applicants should be capable of writing policy consultation reports centering on major strategic decisions and arrangements for national and local economic and social development as well as combining hot-spot and key issues such as green finance.

Excellent Applicants will be provided with relevant treatments on negotiable terms.

Salary Package

Salary is offered according to the National Salary Standards of the universities under the Ministry of Education. Besides, the university also offers sufficient research start-up funds.

Minimum of 50,000 RMB research start-up fund for Humanities and Social Sciences.

50,000 RMB housing and relocation allowance plus temporary apartment.

Schooling settlements for children.

 

iv. Youth Researcher

Requirements

Applicants should be no more than 35 years old in principle and be physically healthy, and have good morality and academic spirit, rigorous research style, as well as positive mentality and team spirits.

Applicants are required to have graduated with a PhD degree in first-class universities or famous research institutions at home and abroad. Those who already have Associate Professorship or above, or have experiences of postdoctoral research or have one or more consecutive years of overseas study or cooperative research experience are preferred.

In line with our university’s “Double First-Class” construction and discipline development demands, the applicants should be able to publish high-quality achievements in areas such as the research on green finance policy, research on green financial product innovation as well as on green finance & “Belt and Road” international cooperation.

Applicants should be able to work on full time in Institute of Green Finance, Lanzhou University.

Applicants should be capable of grasping the development frontier of this discipline with achieved certain academic achievements and the potential to be academic leaders.

Once employed, Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

Issuing at least 2 papers on journals in SCI, SSCI, A&HCI as the first author (if as the second author, the first author should be his/her students or supervisors) or as the correspondent author.

Publishing at least 4 papers on domestic authoritative journals, and at least one of them is in the domestic top journal.

Hosting at least one National Social Science Fund Project or one National Natural Science Foundation Project.

Completing half work of the Requirements A and B respectively.

Salary Package

Youth researchers will be paid an annual salary of 250,000 to 300,000 RMB (pre-tax) per year, and the specific standard will be defined in the recruitment announcement and employment contract.

The university will provide 400,000 RMB research start-up fund for Humanities and Social Sciences.

Applicants can apply for the appointment as master’s supervisors, and the specific appointment procedures will be in accordance with the relevant requirements of our university.

The university will purchase social insurances such as medical care in accordance with relevant national regulations and offer temporary apartments.

The university will support them to apply for various national talents projects.

v. Foreign Teacher

Requirements

Applicants should abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China and the rules and regulations of the university.

Applicants should respect moral standards and customs of Chinese people as well as China’s religious policy, and not engage in activities that teachers should not take part in.

Applicants should be physically and mentally healthy without criminal records and bad habits.

Professional foreign teachers should already have PhD degree with some experiences in teaching and scientific research, or hold a master’s degree with work as an assistant professor or above in overseas teaching and research institutions.

Salary Package

The salary of professional foreign teachers could be higher than the salary of teachers at the same level in the university, in principle, no more than 20%. And for high-level talents, our university will determine the salary separately.

During the employment period, the university will cover their domestic(from Lanzhou to any other entry and exit ports in China)and international travel expenses once a year.

Foreign teachers can rent our university’s apartments for foreign teachers, or have self-accommodation.
