University Overview
Stony Brook Institute at Anhui University (SBIAHU) is a US-China cooperative educational institution established between Anhui University, China (AHU) and the State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA (SBU). SBIAHU was established in June 2020 and in July, Chen-Ning Yang, a famous theoretical physicist, Nobel Laureate in Physics, and Professor Emeritus of Stony Brook University, inscribed the name of Stony Brook Institute of Anhui University. SBIAHU brings together the flagship universities of Anhui Province and New York State to form the first China-US joint institute in Anhui Province, capitalizing on the universities’ shared strengths in research and STEM disciplines to nurture our students’ existing talents and passions.
In 2020, SBIAHU opened its doors to its inaugural class, providing students with both high-quality education and meaningful cross-cultural experience. SBIAHU offers three outstanding undergraduate programs: Applied Statistics, Applied Physics, and Digital Media Technology.
Position Overview
The Joint Institute is looking for instructors to teach undergraduate Applied Physics courses for students. Depending on the applicant’s experience, a title of Assistant, Associate or Full Teaching Professor is offered.
Responsibilities & Duties
l Teaching undergraduate students in English.
l Holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), creating and grading exams and homework, and interacting with other faculty and staff to contribute to current and future innovative pedagogical efforts in undergraduate teaching.
l Participating in other institutional activities, including curriculum development, committee service, course evaluations, etc.
l Research collaboration with faculty in related areas will be encouraged if desired.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
l Doctoral degree in Physics or closely related areas;
l Native-level English language skills (native speakers are preferred);
l Working experience of two years or more after obtaining the doctoral degree, as a post-doctoral researcher or as an instructor, is normally required.
A successful applicant will be passionate about teaching, willing to stay in Hefei for a period of at least several years and will consider a long-term commitment to teaching at the Joint Institute. In support, the position provides opportunities for advancement and development, but without tenure.
Remuneration and Benefits EMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
l Competitive salary in the market.
l Chinese social security and standard fringe benefits as well as standard medical insurance is provided. In addition, our team will provide support in accommodation, travel, children’s education, medical treatment and other aspects for international faculty.
l If the candidate is overseas, a round trip* international Economy-class airfare will be covered (payable upon presentation of receipts and boarding pass) within one term of contract.
* Reimbursement of airfare from Hefei to overseas is not applicable if you are to stay in China after the term of the contract.
l If quarantined for entering China or traveling from COVID high-risk areas (defined by the City of Hefei) to Hefei, the quarantine cost (hotel room, food) will be covered by SBIAHU. SBIAHU will pay the contracted monthly payment during the quarantine.
