About the School of Public Policy, CUHK-Shenzhen:

As a postgraduate school, The School of Public Policy (SPP) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) is dedicated to enrolling master’s and doctoral students with the goal of nurturing modern public policy professionals who are well-versed in public administration principles and have a command of leading-edge public policy tools. The school is committed to building an original knowledge system for Chinese public policy and administration, fostering the growth of applied social sciences in Shenzhen, and striving to become a world-class public policy school that reflects the public administration ethos of East Asia in general, and China in particular.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Engaging in cutting-edge research within the realm of urban studies, striving for excellence on a global scale;

2. Delivering a diverse array of postgraduate-level courses in core areas of urban studies;

3. Playing a key role in curriculum development and undertaking administrative responsibilities as needed;

4. Spearheading various initiatives organized by the School, such as public lectures, seminars, and forums, to contribute actively to academic discourse;

5. Fostering collaborations between the School and institutions worldwide to enhance global partnerships and cooperation.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. A Ph.D. degree in urban studies or related field such as policy science, geography, urban planning, economics, sociology, or anthropology. Expertise in a particular policy area is highly valued, but the position is open to a wide array of research topics within urban studies. Topical areas of application could include but are not limited to urban policy and governance, urban and regional economics, urban and spatial planning, urban environment and resource management, housing and regeneration, migration and urbanization, smart cities;

2. Applicants are expected to exhibit a robust foundation in academic research, with a preference for those possessing a distinguished track record of producing high-quality publications. Applicants are encouraged to provide relevant quality indicators for the journals where their research has been published. This may include information such as journal impact factor, journal ranking within a pertinent category, as available in the Journal Citations Reports of the Web of Science;

3. Proficiency in English is essential, as it will serve as the working language within the position;

4. A Ph.D. must be in hand prior to taking up the appointment.
