Requirements

At the same time of revising and promulgating the Implementation Measures for the Introduction and Management of Talents of Nantong University and the Reward Measures for “Bole Award” of Nantong University’s High-level Talents Attraction and Training Work, the university has also specially formulated the Management Provisions for Apartments of Foreign Teachers of Nantong University, the Measures for the Salary Administration of Foreign Teachers of Nantong University, and the Rules for the Assessment of Prizes and Merits of Foreign Experts of Nantong University.

Nowadays, more than ten foreign teachers have moved into the foreign teachers’ apartment. Jaward, who came to Nantong University with his wife and children from Pakistan two years ago, not only successfully applied for a fully equipped two-bedroom apartment to solve the problem of accommodation for the whole family at the beginning of his stay at the university, but also his eldest son was enrolled in Zilang Primary School of Nantong not far away from the university in September this year.

“I am very grateful for all the help the school has provided for our family.” Jaward said that since he started working at Tongda, the school has not only provided him with all kinds of help in the registration procedures, solving the problems of family accommodation and children’s schooling, but also organized Chinese language training and heart-to-heart talks from time to time to help them improve their Chinese language proficiency and alleviate their psychological distress. “My youngest daughter was born at the end of last year, and the school took the initiative to help us contact the community and the police station to build a card; my eldest son can go to Zilang Primary School because the school helped us communicate with the school in the early stage; in April this year, when we were inconvenienced by the epidemic, the school tried to help us purchase a large batch of halal ingredients; the school leaders sent blessings and spring couplets to my home on the eve of the Spring Festival, which helped me find a ‘home’ at Tongda” He said.

As a matter of fact, in order to let foreign teachers have a pleasant and peaceful trip to Tongda, the relevant functional departments of the university started to collect relevant information to understand the culture, religion and beliefs of the countries in which they live at the very first moment when the foreign teachers expressed their intention of cooperation, and took the initiative to ask the foreign teachers about their own dietary habits, children’s enrollment needs, etc., to assess their adaptability to Nantong and to make a good plan in advance. Before the foreign teachers formally report to the school, special personnel will also be arranged to dock with the local immigration authorities to help them with residence permits and work permits. Last year, the school made special and urgent arrangements and used all kinds of resources to help a foreign teacher whose visa was about to expire solve the problem of visa extension the day before he joined the school.

II Qualifications and Requirements

1. Applicants should be in good health; applicants should be passionate and professional;

2. Applicants should have bachelor’s degree or above;

3. Applicants who’s nationality is not China, should meet one of the following conditions:

  • 1) Applicants with bachelor’s degree should provide two-year working certificate;
  • 2) Applicants who are freshly graduated with master’s degree should provide a transcript with an average grade over 60; other applicants graduated with master’s degree should provide working certificate.

About Jiaying University

Jiaying University, established in 1913, located in downtown Meizhou City, Guangdong province, is a public provincial undergraduate university. Meizhou City was known as Jiaying City in the Qing Dynasty, the university is thus named as Jiaying University. The University covers a building area of 600,000 square meters. It has 21 secondary colleges, offering 60 undergraduate major subjects and 11 disciplines including literature, science, engineering, law, and medicine with more than 26,000 full-time students. The University attaches great importance to foreign exchange and cooperation and international education, and has established friendly cooperative relations with overseas universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, Taiwan and other countries. Now there are foreign teachers from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Japan and other countries.

About the campus

The foreign teachers’ building is situated across a small bridge in a small enclave providing a little bit of privacy while still being close to teaching buildings. Classes are typically taught in nearby buildings which are approximately five minutes away on scooter or ten to fifteen minutes on foot. Daily grocery shopping can be done at supermarkets and vegetable and fruit shops surrounding the campus. Meals are also available at the local dining halls and can be conveniently charged with a dining card. Meizhou is located half a day away from big cities, manufacturing hubs and ports so expect prompt deliver of items when doing on-line shopping on TaoBao or Amazon China.

About the city

Meizhou, endowed with the titles of the Capital of Hakkas of the World, Hometowns of Culture, Overseas Chinese and Football, is a small city with a long wide river winding through it. The city has numerous small and big bridges. Meizhou is home to the Hakka people with their own architecture, cuisine and language (in addition to standard Mandarin). The city is filled with winding alleys, small shops, as well as street vendors that sell snacks, vegetables and fruit- all at relatively low prices compared to some of the larger cities. The city also has numerous supermarkets, gyms, restaurants, parks and boutiques. The city center is conveniently located within a short travel distance from campus (about 15-20 minutes).

Qualifications

  • For English/Japanese teachers: native speaker, 25-58 years old; an undergraduate or master or PhD degree with at least two years teaching experience;
  • For others, 25-58 years old; a master or PhD degree with at least two years teaching experience.
  • Healthy

Workload

  • 12-14 three-quarter hour periods a week

Salary & Benefit

  • Between RMB 10,000-13,000(pre-tax) based on relevant degrees per month. Up to 3 months paid vacations during contract period;
  • Travel allowance consisting of a yearly airfare reimbursement of 8000RMB plus an additional 2000 RMB yearly travel stipend;
  • Sponsorship of residency permit, as well as accident and medical insurance;
  • Free Chinese class and attendance is voluntary.
  • Free apartment on campus with two bedrooms, one reading room, one sitting room, one bathroom, western toilet, kitchen, and with appliances such as shower water heater, washing machine, refrigerator, furniture, color TV with cable, air-conditioner, Microwave/oven, cooking stove, Telephone, computer with free and fast Internet access.
