In February 2019, Shandong First Medical University (山东第一医科大学, website) was formally established. The university is a key applied research university in Shandong Province and the largest medical scientific research institution in Shandong Province.
Shandong First Medical University has two campuses, Jinan and Tai’an. It has research institutions in Jinan, Qingdao, Jining and other places, covering a total area of more than 6000 acres. The main campus is located in the core area of Jinan International Medical Science Center, with a planned area of about 2,600 acres and a building area of 900,000 square meters. The Tai’an campus covers an area of more than 3,000 acres, with an area of 820,000 square meters. The school (academy) has a high-level faculty and research team led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. At present, there are 5,566 teaching staff. Among them, there are 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1831 professional and technical personnel with a deputy high degree or above, and 3395 persons with master’s and doctoral degrees. There are currently 44 undergraduate majors, 5 master’s degree authorized first-level disciplines, 64 master’s degree authorized points, and 6 key disciplines in Shandong Province. The clinical medicine discipline has entered the top 1% of the ESI world ranking for six consecutive years.
Shandong First Medical University conducts basic medical research and applied basic research, and has obtained a series of research results with significant social and economic benefits. In the past five years, it has undertaken 28 national science and technology support plans and national key research and development plans; it has won 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 He Liang Heli Fund Science and Technology Progress Award, and 2 Shandong Science and Technology Top Awards. 7 first prizes for science and technology awards in Shandong Province. It has a high-level innovation platform such as the National Key Laboratory Cultivation Base, the National Health Commission Key Laboratory, and the Provincial Key Laboratory.
Shandong First Medical University has strong strength in clinical medicine and disease prevention. It has 9 tertiary hospitals, including 4 general hospitals and 5 specialized hospitals; 16 national key clinical specialties and 6 national drug clinical trial institutions. He has taken the lead in the country to basically eliminate black fever, filariasis, malaria, and leprosy, and won the “four consecutive championships” in the history of the eradication of disease in New China. He is currently guiding the province to develop occupational diseases, skin diseases, parasitic diseases, and tumors. Early diagnosis and early treatment, radiation protection, prevention of blindness, prevention and treatment of rare diseases; has a World Health Organization cooperation center.
Shandong First Medical University is the first batch of scholarship institutions awarded by the Shandong Provincial Government for foreign students. Since 2004, it has recruited undergraduate and master students from more than 20 countries and regions such as the United States, South Korea, Canada, India, and Nepal. It has established good cooperative relations with universities and medical and scientific research institutions in more than 30 countries including the United States, Britain, Australia, Russia, Japan and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions; six foreign cooperation experts have won the “Qilu Friendship Award”.
