Description

The program of Media and Communication Studies (MCOM) in the Department of Communication at UIC invites applications from student-centered scholar-practitioners broadly trained in one or more of the following fields: 1) communication and media theory; 2) new media; 3) international communication, 4) convergent and multimedia journalism. There are opportunities to develop innovative pedagogy and collaborative research.

Job Requirement 

All applicants should hold a PhD degree in Media and Communications with a commensurable research profile. Applicants with an MA and extensive industry experience will also be considered. Other requirements include a firm commitment to teaching and tutoring students as well as engaging in theory-based qualitative or quantitative research. Teaching responsibilities of 3 courses per semester may include courses related to communication theory, cross-cultural/intercultural communication, and others of the applicant’s own interests. Research experience in media literacy and digital/new media-related areas will be an added asset. Preference will be given to candidates who can undertake original research leading to high-quality outcomes.

Benefits and Appointment Terms

Commencing salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave and social insurance. Appointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract with mutual agreement.
