Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages (浙江越秀外国语学院) is a full-time general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, one of the first batch of historical and cultural cities in China, the famous Jiangnan water town, and Lu Xun’s hometown. It was founded in 1981 and was upgraded to an undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in 2008.
The university has two campuses, Jishan and Jinghu, covering an area of nearly 1,300 acres and a campus building area of more than 420,000 square meters; the library has more than 1.82 million paper books and more than 1.14 million electronic books.
The university has the School of English, the School of Oriental Languages, the School of Western Languages, the School of International Business, the School of International Finance and Trade, the School of Internet Communication, the School of Chinese Language and Culture, the School of Hotel Management, the School of International Studies (Eastern Institute of Data Science and Communication), and There are 14 secondary colleges, including the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Marxism, the School of International Student Education, and the School of Continuing Education, with 41 undergraduate majors, covering 6 disciplines including literature, engineering, economics, management, art, and education. Contains 15 foreign languages including English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, Czech, Turkish and Polish. According to the 2019 China Private University Rankings by Subjects, Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages continued to rank No. 1 in Literature, No. 5 in Social Science, No. 9 in Economics, and No. 15 in Management. Four of the six disciplines that the school has opened are among the top 20 private universities.
Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages currently has more than 1,000 faculty members, of which more than 80% are full-time teachers with master’s and doctoral degrees, and 42% are full-time teachers with intermediate and senior titles. At present, there are more than 100 foreign teachers from the United States, Britain, Canada, South Korea, Japan and other countries.
In the overall level of internationalization of Zhejiang colleges and universities released by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, the university has maintained first place in the “Overall Level of Internationalization of Other Undergraduate Universities in Zhejiang Province” for 5 years. At present, the school’s international cooperation projects have covered 15 foreign languages and all majors, and more than 30 countries such as the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Poland, and Taiwan. More than 160 universities or institutions in three countries and regions have established substantive and friendly cooperative relations. Each year, more than 700 students are sent abroad for long- and short-term cultural exchanges, and overseas study programs such as undergraduate double degrees, undergraduate and master degrees are carried out; New Zealand Eastern Institute of Technology co-organizes an undergraduate-level Sino-foreign cooperative education institution; it recruits about 500 foreign students every year.
